Grava Cave

The cave of Grava Gardiki is located at the southern foot of Mount Pantokrator (Municipality of Melitieon, Municipality of St. Matthew of Corfu), in an olive grove and at an altitude of 60 m. It is about 300 meters from the Byzantine fortification of Gardiki. The cave was excavated in 1966 by Professor Aug. Sordinas. The excavations brought to light flint stone tools, a cobblestone with traces of ocher, a perforated deer fang and the remains of prey animals. The research showed that the processing of the tools took place inside the cave.
